The Brian Johnston Memorial Trust was founded by Brian’s widow, Pauline Johnston in 1995. The objects of the charity are:

* The award of Brian Johnston Scholarships to promising young cricketers in need of financial support to fulfil their potential.
* The support of sport for the disabled, particularly cricket for the blind.

These awards are funded mainly through membership of the Johnners Club and the annual Johnners Club Dinner in October each year.

In December 1999 the Brian Johnston Memorial Trust joined forces with the Lord’s Taverners and is now based in the Taverners offices at 10 Buckingham Place, London. SW1E 6HX.

STOP PRESS

Thank you to all those who attended the Johnners Club Annual Dinner in the Long Room at Lord's on 31 October. This year's dinner was a special tribute to the late England cricketers Trevor Bailey and Fred Titmus and it was hosted by Chris Cowdrey with some excellent guest speakers including Mike Brearley, Doug Insole, Clive Radley and Peter Baxter. It was a wonderful evening and we raised about £10,000 towards the funding of the Brian Johnston cricket scholarships. Thank you to everyone and we look forward to welcoming you again next year when we will be celebrating Brian Johnston's centenary.

Congratulations to one of our earliest Johnners scholars, Kyle Hogg, on being a member of the first Lancashire team to win the County Championship in 77 years. Kyle, a 28 year-old right arm fast medium bowler, played an important role in Lancashire's championship-winning season, contributing 50 wickets as well as scoring 365 runs. We are delighted for Kyle and the whole Lancashire team and we wish him continued success in his cricket career.

Congratulations to former Johnners scholar Scott Borthwick, the 21-year-old leg-spinner from Durham, on being selected to be in the England One Day International team against Ireland on 25 August. A few years ago the Brian Johnston Memorial Trust paid the travel expenses for Scott to travel to Adelaide in Australia to receive specialist wrist spin coaching from Shane Warne's former coach, Terry Jenner. We are delighted at Scott's success and wish him the best of luck in his future England career.

Congratulations to the England Women's Cricket Team on winning the Nat West Women's T20 Quadrangular series between England, Australia, New Zealand and India. On 27th June England beat Australia by 16 runs in the final at the Rose Bowl. We are very proud that five members of the England squad were former Johnners Scholars, including Holly Colvin, who was named as Player of the Series.

BRIAN JOHNSTON SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS 2011

The BJMT Awards Panel met on 20th April 2011 to make the annual Johnners Awards. A total of £23,000 was given in scholarships and awards to help promising young cricketers to fulfil their potential. Once again we are grateful for the generosity and support of Johnners Club members, who have enabled us to make these awards.

(1) ECB Recommended Scholars.

On the recommendation of the ECB Performance Department, Brian Johnston cricket scholarships totalling £12,000 were awarded to the following young cricketers:

(2) Blind Cricket.

The Brian Johnston Memorial Trust is proud to continue its support of the England Blind Cricket Team and a grant of £6,000 was awarded towards the cost of funding an eight-team tournament at the University of Leicester in September 2011, designed to introduce young players to the international version of blind cricket. An additional grant of £5,000 was given to the Cricket 4 Change development programme. This offers blind and visually impaired school children the opportunity to participate in out of school cricket clubs.
